The research team of the HyvoData project has been recognised for its work in advancing the treatment of chronic wounds, as the group’s ePoster was awarded an honorary certificate for the best scientific ePoster at the Valtakunnalliset Haavapäivät 2026.
The award-winning poster “The development process of an AI-based image recognition program for the assessment of chronic wound” was created by Eveliina Laine, Mitra Daneshmand, Heli Björlin and Ira Saarinen.
The poster focused on the development process of an AI-based image recognition program designed to support the assessment of chronic wounds. The work is part of the HyvoData project, in which a medical AI-based image recognition system is being developed through collaboration between professionals from SAMK and Satasairaala.
Eveliina Laine is conducting doctoral research on the topic at Tampere University and works in close collaboration with the project team. She also presented the research group’s poster at the event. Researcher Heli Björlin received the honorary certificate on behalf of Eveliina and the rest of the team.
The AI tool is being developed through multidisciplinary collaboration. Mitra Daneshmand is responsible for developing the AI model, Heli Björlin supports the collection of image data, and Ira Saarinen contributes medical expertise to the project.
This recognition is a strong indication that the research and development carried out in the HyvoData project is both timely and of national interest. At the same time, it highlights the potential of artificial intelligence in the assessment and treatment planning of chronic wounds.
Valtakunnalliset Haavapäivät is organised by the Suomen haavanhoitoyhdistys ry.
The HyvoData project is co-funded by the European Union. For more information about the project, visit:
